Captain Rick Murdoch has had his US Coast Guard License for over 35 years. He has guided fishermen from South Texas to South Florida, and has lived and guided fishermen here in South Alabama for over 30 years. Rick lives in Orange Beach, Al. He studied Wildlife management and fisheries in college and served in the US army as a medic. He's also been referred to as "the best Cajun cook around."
Boat: The Alabama Girl is a 23 foot Kenner, powered by an Evinrude fuel injected 225-hp outboard. The semi-vee hull was designed especially for bay and inland fishing and has been copied by numerous other boat manufacturers. This boat is the class of the fleet, and is the most rugged, safest boat your family or friends could fish from. Other fishing guides call it the 'Tank". Alabama Girl is sleek and fast. She will run 45 mph to get your crew to the most distant honey holes. There are 2 live wells on Alabama Girl, as live bait is the key to our fishing success. As we say,' the angler with the best bait always wins! We are always within phone range for your personal or business calls. We have VHF radio for Coast Guard communications and weather info, and we have state of the art GPS navigation and color sonar systems for navigation and fish-finding ability
Tackle: Alabama Girl uses Shimano 12 pound class spinning tackle for over 90% of our fishing. All tackle is tournament maintained and easy for beginners to use. A 6 year old can use this tackle and catch a beautiful Speckled Trout or Redfish easily. If Bull Redfish are the target species, we may opt for a little larger tackle or even trolling rods. Easily understood instructions come at the beginning of every trip for novices, along with answers to any questions you may have about gear we use aboard Alabama Girl. We love families and understand that not everyone is a Pro. We will instruct your group in easily understood terms, how to use the equipment, and keep gently coaching you during the trip.
